Author description

Brian and Wilma Rittershausen are among the most respected names in the world of orchids. They are the second generation of orchid growers to run the award-winning Burnham Nurseries in Devonshire, England, started by their father in 1950. They are both authorities within their profession: Brian was a member of the Royal horticultural Society Orchid Committee and is well known for his lecture tours in the U.S.A and Britain, while Wilma is equally well known for her writings in various orchid journals, was the editor of The Orchid Review in Britain for 15 years and has also been a member of the Royal Horticultural Society Orchid Committee. Brian and Wilma have written and contributed to several books on orchids and in 2010 the pair were awarded the prestigious RHS Westonbirt Medal for outstanding literary services to orchids. The Royal Horticultural Society is the UK's leading gardening charity dedicated to advancing horticulture and promoting good gardening. Its charitable work includes providing expert advice and information, training the next generation of gardeners, creating hands-on opportunities for children to grow plants and conducting research into plants, pests and environmental issues affecting gardeners. Royalties from the sale of this book go towards the charitable work of the RHS, promoting horticulture and helping gardeners.
